National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) held its inaugural Honorary Alumni Awards in 2024, celebrating individuals who are not alumni but have made significant contributions to the university. A selection committee composed of internal and external members, as well as alumni, selected seven recipients for the first awards. The Honorary Alumni Awards Ceremony took place on January 8, 2025.
The first cohort of seven honorary alumni includes Show-Chung Ho, Dean of the Yuen-Foong-Yu Academy; Chen-Pang Wu, Chairman of CH Biotech R&D Co., Ltd., and Professor Charles W. Tu, Yushan Scholar of the Ministry of Education; Steven Hong, Chairman of YOKE Industrial Corp.; Chung-Yuan Kung, retired Professor of NCHU’s Department of Electrical Engineering; Chin-Ho Chen, General Manager of LONG Automatic Machinery Co., Ltd.; and Shaw-Yi Hwang, Professor at NCHU’s Department of Entomology.
NCHU President Fuh-Jyh Jan noted that many of the university’s significant initiatives have been achieved with support from various sectors, including road construction projects, the Jade Award, and the Hsing-Yi Scholarship. Three recipients—Show-Chung Ho, Chen-Pang Wu, and Professor Charles W. Tu—were also recognized as Distinguished Honorary Alumni and were honored at the university’s anniversary celebration on November 2, 2024. President Jan expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the honorary alumni, emphasizing that the university will continue to leverage resources to further its development.
Steven Hong, Chairman of YOKE Industrial Corp., Chin-Ho Chen, General Manager of LONG Automatic Machinery Co., Ltd., and Shaw-Yi Hwang, Professor of NCHU’s Department of Entomology, attended the awards ceremony to accept their honors.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Steven Hong thanked the university for its recognition, calling the honorary alumni title his greatest honor. He shared that YOKE Industrial Corp. has been providing scholarships to various departments, including Finance, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science, since 2000, witnessing NCHU’s growth into a world-class institution. He expressed confidence in the university’s continued innovation and talent cultivation under President Jan’s leadership.
General Manager Chin-Ho Chen expressed his gratitude to the university and its faculty, stating that NCHU is the finest institution in central Taiwan. He added that he takes pride in being associated with NCHU and aspires to further excel to become a true alumnus of the university.
Professor Shaw-Yi Hwang reflected on his journey, recalling his time in the U.S. as a Ph.D. student when he purchased three entomology textbooks authored by Professor Ku-Shen Kung of NCHU’s Department of Entomology. He never imagined he would one day return to Taiwan and have the honor of working alongside Professor Kung. Feeling deeply proud and joyful as part of the NCHU community, Professor Hwang cited the Bible, saying, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and wished peace and blessings to all present.
