Dr. Daniel Burckhardt, a distinguished authority on Psylloidea and an esteemed entomologist at the Natural History Museum in Basel, Switzerland, was graciously invited by the Department of Entomology, NCHU, to visit Taiwan from October to December 2023. During his visit, Dr. Burckhardt delivered keynote addresses at a symposium, provided major lectures in a workshop, and was invited as a speaker in a series of academic seminars at NCHU. Additionally, on November 29th, he actively participated in a specimen exchange ceremony between the Natural History Museum in Basel and the Insect Museum of the Department of Entomology at NCHU.
Dr. Burckhardt contributed nearly three hundred species, totaling around six hundred invaluable specimens of Psylloidea and Peloridiidae sourced from diverse continents across the globe. This collection includes newly identified psyllid species, which have been named and published by Dr. Burckhardt. Notably, among these specimens are two Peloridiidae exclusively discovered in the Southern Hemisphere. These insects belong to a distinctive and thriving group within the suborder Coleorrhyncha of the order Hemiptera, rendering them exceptionally significant for the collection in Taiwan.
